FourCC : EM4A

The Panasonic codec is a bit old but still in use today. You can download the small file on this website. This was mainly used for the old D-Snap camera.

You will note that the EM4A codec is a proprietary video codec. Firstly, this was originally developed by Panasonic. It is used by some Panasonic digital cameras with the Panasonic D-Snap digital camcorders being the first to have made use of this codec. Much like other codecs it was designed for high compression rates with good image quality. The reason behind the codec was that it would compress audio and video for devices where storage was limited. Yet still maintain the video quality.

Firstly, like other proprietary codecs the EM4A codec saw little uptake outside of Panasonic itself. Proprietary  codecs include the following – the BLZ0 codec as well as the BINK codec and the CHAM codec. Today if you are looking at those old videos. Then you will need this codec to convert it to a format that you can edit. The codec for this is on this website. See if you can edit your video from the old format to a newer format. Install the codec and see if your video editor will allow you to edit the old Panasonic video format. Finally you can also see the DivX MPEG-4 compressor as well as the old CIF Single Chip Camera software.
