FourCC : CVID

logo2What is the FourCC : CVID here. This is used by the Cinepak codec. The Cinepak codec is a rather old coding technique that is still used today but not much. The Cinepak codec  advantage comes from its simplicity at the decoder stage, rather than bitrate versus quality performance.

FourCC : CVID

The Cinepak codec is at its very core a vector quantiser with adaptive vector density. You can download the codec here: Cinepak Codec. The CVID codec stands for “Cinepak Video codec”. You can see the link on this web page. It Cinepak is a well-known video codec used for compressing video data. This especially in the context of computer applications and video editing.

This CVID codec was developed by Radius in the early 1990s. This then became popular due to its inclusion in many software applications. The codec was also used in such software as QuickTime and Video for Windows. As stated the Cinepak  codec is a lossy codec. This means that some information is lost during compression to reduce file size. As you will not that this is a lossy codec and not a lossless codec. The trade-off is a smaller file size and easier playback on lower-end hardware. While the codec is no longer as widely used today, it remains an important part of video compression history.

So see the Cinepak Codec as well as the CSCD codec.
