Cinepak Codec

Firstly if you are still using old hard such as the cif single chip. Then see that page for codecs and other driver software. now as for this codec which is as old as that camera. The Cinepak software which is a video codec that was developed by the Radius Inc company in 1991. This was one of the first codecs to make the market. It allowed you to compress full motion video on your computer at home. This was the Cinema + Pack when going to the cinema was still very popular. It is still used today to decompress old video. See also the c00d10d1 on here if you are playing older video. This or the ffv1 codec download.

Being one of the first codecs to make the market. The Cinepak Codec was also included with most software. Everything from Microsoft to Quicktime when that was still popular. Real Alternative Player came much later. Watching video off the CD drive as well as creating your first video content then. The codec was very useful in making smaller video files in the 1990’s.

The Cinepak Codec used a combination of interframe and intraframe compression. This made the file size much smaller. It used the 8X8 pixels for compression and something called vector quantization to make each block smaller. So each block of video took up less space when saved. Today it is all outdated as the  H.264 and VP9 codec takes the market.

Updating the Cinepak Codec

You can update to our version just by copying ICCVID.DLL over the top of the copy you already have (in Win 9X, \windows\system; in Win NT/2K/XP, \winnt\system32).

If you do not already have Cinepak installed. Then you did not choose to install the multimedia/video components when you installed Windows. In that case, the codec is not enough; you are missing a number of other files you need in order to view videos. finally if you cannot play .avi/GMP4 files then see that page as it is a different issue.
