Difference between 3IV1 and 3IV2

The 3IV1 codec was the very first version of the 3ivx MPEG-4 video codec which was released in 2000. The codec offered low FourCC 3IV2compression rates compared to other MPEG-4 codecs which had been available at the time of its release. It did provide excellent video quality but also came with limited features. It included such features as having interlaced video. However the codec did not support B-frames and global motion compensation which was a more advanced feature.

The next generation was the 3IV2 which was released three years later. This included more advanced features. It was improved compared to the first release. The second version offered much higher compression rates while still delivering the much needed high video quality. This version now also included support for B-frames and global motion compensation.  In addition to this it was also now more compatible with the other MPEG-4 codecs.

Note also that the software works with Media Player Classic as well as with Zoom Player and VirtualDub.
