CamStudio Lossless Codec is optimized for screen capture applications. It complements the other CamStudio Screen Recorder and is able to encode frames at high speed with perfect quality. See other codecs if this does not work.
Features of this codec
Operates in RGB mode and is able to compress 16, 24 or 32 bit RGB bitmaps.
— Supports temporal compression and produce small file size.
— Fast — encoding rate is as fast as MS Video 1
— Lossless — images are encoded without lost of information.
— The playback will give images of perfect quality.
— Supports two lossless compression algorithms : LZO and GZIP.
— The LZO algorithm is very fast and is best used for screen capturing.
The GZIP (zlib) algorithm is most useful when you are not using this codec with CamStudio Recorder. Usually an AVI file already exists, and you want to convert or recompress the AVI file using CamStudio codec to take advantage of its lossless and temporal compression. The encoding with the GZIP algorithm is a slow process but it produces a small AVI file and that is ideal for archiving purposes.
When encoding with a third party application, you will have to enable or force keyframes to take advantage of this codec’s temporal compression. Otherwise every frame will be stored as a key frame and the resulting file size will be huge.

An important point to note : An AVI recorded with the CamStudio Codec is not highly portable. You will not be able to view the AVI on another computer unless that computer installs the CamStudio Codec.
