You might recall that the DPS Perception Adapter was a product developed by the Harris Corporation. The company has since changed names to L3Harris Technologies. The adapter was designed to be used to provide audio processing for FM and HD Radio transmissions. This was and still is the core of their business. The hardware included support for the Dolby Pro Logic II encoding technology.
The adapter from Harris was designed to work with the Harris’ FM and HD Radio transmission systems. This allowed the broadcasters to improve on their audio quality of their broadcasts. The concept was toy process as we as enhance the audio signal before transmission. It is a hardware device that is installed as part of the transmission chain and can be configured and controlled remotely.
Older hardware an codecs can be found in the articles on the ASV1 codec as well as ADV1 codec. There are also other hardware and codecs which are not used much any longer. These include the ASLC codec and CDVC codec as well.
